It depends on scope, and we say that precisely because we take estimating seriously. After discovery we provide a fixed quote for a first release with a clear feature list. Small internal tools and portals start in the low five figures; full SaaS products are larger, phased projects.
Should I build custom software or use an existing tool?
Use an existing tool if one genuinely fits — we will tell you if it does. Build when your process is a real competitive advantage, when integration is the problem, or when the off-the-shelf option is costing more in workarounds and licences than a build would.
